Equipment washouts??

Post by atlantic44 on December 29th 2008, 5:43 pm

Have you ever purchased a grooming tool/equipment and it turned into a total dud?

I can list a few:
The Furminator system (don't use it, no one wants it)
A pouch for my scissors - I tried using it but found I still put my scissors down on the my supply table
A restraining system - it was a neck restraint plus one that was supposed to slide under the belly/rear area - totally useless, the dogs always walked out of it
Bows - I still can't get them on right, it was one thing I was never taught at grooming school
A flea comb - don't think I have ever used it
Trimmer clipper - the Andis one with the light, most of the dogs don't like the light close to their faces, which was the reason I bought it in the first place
Plastic combs attachments - didn't use them for very long before I bought the metal ones
Pin brush - I never use it, though I think it is recommended for certain breeds like Yorkies??
There are also some shampoos that I didn't care for, but that is more personal preference.
Can you add to the list? Rolling Eyes

This should be fun
Various scissors- while trying to replace my old Oster scissors, tried several different ones, all crap, until I found the Geib super gators
Numerous cordless clippers, totally useless, never keep their charge, or the blades are so lousy they cut pads etc
Cheap slicker brushes, they are not worth the $$ saved
Gallons of shampoo that never seem to live up to their claims
Plastic comb attachments, HATE THEM
I'm sure there is more I will remember

Atlantic- you can use your flea comb for removing eye goobers and butt crusties in the bath.
Also I am going to make a bow video in the near future as I know a few groomers that don't know how to make them or put them on. I will let you know when it is done! Smile

Ahhh...i can't seem to think of much right now, the only thing that comes to mind would be the furminator shedless shampoo, i found that it wasn't worth the money, though it cleaned, it didn't make a huge difference in the shedding department.

As for a bow video, there is one on ebay that was good, i bought it for about $20 and it helped me out.

Laube Lightening Cordless Clippers! The most expensive paper weight I've ever bought!! That's all they are good for.

Various clip on lights, if an effort to illuminate my working area without having to get an electrician to rewire and install better lighting. (those little LED bulbs just don't work. why don't I learn?)

I like my Furminator tool. It doesn't work on all dogs, but when it does, it is great.

That is all I can think of right now, but I know if I go look in my cupboard I will find lots of useless things I've wasted my money on.

another one for the furminator shampoo.. no need for it.

I don't really have much that I don't use. I haven't been grooming for all that long so maybe I haven't had the chance to use different stuff. I usually research every item I buy before hand so that may stop a lot of the duds there.

I couldn't work without a cordless clipper.. maybe you should try the Speed feed... also the brauva is really good too.

Pin brushes, I have on CC T brush that I love... like it for long flowing coats and for dogs that shed(goldens, gsd and the like). They have a tiny pin brush too that would be really good for the smaller dogs as the T brush is quite large.
