Cordless Clippers

Post by sk9klippery on September 6th 2008, 7:59 am

I've been tossing around the idea of getting a cordless clipper. Just wondering if anyone has one they use a lot, and what they think of it. I've been looking at the Andis cordless, does anyone have one, is it heavy?

Bought one and hated it! Didn't keep the charge long enough and was usless when the charge wasn't at full capacity. Also bought several of the smaller types for eye and pads, again hated them. JMHO

My experience with cordless clippers was a very expensive mistake. I bought the Laube Lightening Cordless Clipper and it was an absolute waste of money. The batteries started out keeping their charge very well (the first few months) but within 6 months the batteries were dead and would not charge. I called the company, thinking the batteries were defective, but I was told that 6 months to a year was all you can expect to get from the batteries. A new set of batteries are about $350.00. Which means every year you would have to put out $350.00 (US). They didn't seem to think this was a problem.

I thought, Since there was no point having a cordless clipper with no battery I would order a new set but take extra care with them to make them last longer. However, once I got the batteries, within 3-4 weeks there was a definate loss of power, they barely stayed charged for 10 minutes of clipping. I called and complained and they agreed to let me return thme before they died like the last ones. At least I got my money back for those. Now I have a cordless clipper sitting in my cupboard with no battery and I've gone back to my good ol' Andies, however I curse the cord every time it gets caught on my table.

I bought an andis cordless not the power groom. I like it but it isn't really fast its good for puppies and dogs that are timid because its not noisey. If your doing mostly bigger dogs stick will the regular andis 2 speed and I'm talking from personal experience here. I have the Laube lightening , had the cordless but like ruffcuts its a waste of alot of money for a very short term clipper that worked well when it worked. I had a Laube mini micro which dropped once and its dead. I also have the switchblade by WHal and I find its getting louder and louder the more I use it. The only clipper that seems to have staying power in my opinion is the Andis AGC 2 speed. I've dropped them many a times and its still going strong. Don't get me started on trimmers.. ha ha

Well i finally got one!!! I found a used Andis Super AGC, i think thats what its called, the black one. And i LOVE it. Its no heavier than my corded andis, i use it all on one battery. I just make sure that i put it back on the charger when i'm done clipping and doing my scissor work. Yesterday i used it on, a wheaton, 2 goldens that had clipper combs all over, a doodle, and a shih poo.
The best part of all is that i got it for $150!!!

I know Michelle really loves her cordless, but I think the batteries only last about 6 months before they won't hold a charge anymore and need to be replaced. That would drive me crazy, but she hates tripping over cords even more.
