I like the andis clippers (one speed), I like them better then the oster because you dont have to oil and grease the clippers. I also just bought the cordless from whal....(the pink ones) It has an adjustable blade from #9 to a #40......Its great I finally found a cordless I like and I would not groom without it now!

I use the Andis 2 speed clippers right now. I started with Laube at grooming school, but after a few weeks I ordered the Oster A5 clippers. I liked the Laube best when they were new, but they wore out pretty quickly and they tend to make the blade hot really fast. My Osters were fine but a bit heavy. I sent them in for a tune up and I don't think they worked quite as well afterwards, that's why I ordered the Andis clippers. So far they are great, the only thing I have to watch is the on/off switch, it is right where I hold my thumb and I keep turning them off unintentionally!! Where do you send your blades and clippers for sharpening or repairs?

I also use the Andis clippers and I tend to turn them off accidently too, the switch really would be better in another spot. I used to use the Osters too but they get so hot and the little vent on the side blowing hair everywhere ugghhhh. As for sharpening we use John Saunders from Saunders Dog Specialties. He is mobile and comes right to our salon and does them in his van. I'm sure if you were willing to send him your stuff he would do it. He does a good job on both the blades and scissors!

I use the Laube Litening. I like it, though I'm not busy enough to wear it out quickly. I need to get a bunch of blades sharpened/repaired too. Does anyone know anywhere close to Brantford that I could have them sharpened?

Do you have John Saunders phone #? I have used him in the past and want to use him again.

I PM'd you the number. If anyone else would like it just PM me and I will give it to you. Don't think I should post it on a public forum just in case.

I think there is a new Andis trimmer with a light on the end. Has anyone tried it yet? I have been wanting to get a trimmer for a while, to use on the smaller dogs around their faces. Just wondering if it is worth the investment.

Re: Clippers

Post by poodlegroominggirl on February 7th 2008, 6:31 pm

UGHHH, these past two weeks have been clipper hell for me, first last week I had both of my Andis ACG break down, and then today my back up clipper Oster 2speed, break down. So hopefully I get the word if my Andis clippers could be fixed. But what would you expect. The room I work in flooded from a broken washing machine and when the staff at the clinic went into stop it and clean it up they accidentally knocked over the cabinet I keep ALL my equipment in. So scissors blades and clipper have been on the fritz since. The real question is who pays the repair bill? Me since it is MY equipment or the clinic for breaking it?

Atlantic, I have seen the clippers with the lights on them but never actually tried one, so no help here LOL
Poodlegirl, I would speak to the vet and see if he's willing to pay for the repairs. It was their washer that caused the problem so they should really help you out. As for your clipper, that stinks, but I recently saw that both Rens and Pet Supply have them on sale. Hopefully yours can be fixed but find out how much it will be before you commit to anything.
