Blades

Post by atlantic44 on September 27th 2008, 8:08 am

I had two Standard Poodles in this week and was able to try out the 5/8th's narrow blade made by Oster on their feet. It worked great, much easier than the large #40 blade. I would recommend this for doing poodle feet. Thanks to crikeymate for suggesting this to me. I have had the blade for a while, but it has been five months since my last Standard came in.

I have NEVER worked on a standard poodle yet! Any tips? Are they generally easy going?

Most standards are very good for grooming but it does of course depend on whether the owner has taught them manners.

We have some that are soooo bad!!! We don't have too many std's ,but there are some good ones as well. Anyone else find that the std's age horribly???? I hate grooming old ones, so skinny and boney.

Basically Pixie, when you groom a standard its like grooming a larger version of the mini, i much prefer the std than a small poodle, its much easier, more time consuming but the feet aren't as small. In general i prefer larger dogs anyway.

Other than the odd dog being sensitive about clean feet, I don't think I have had a Standard Poodle that wasn't great to groom. I must be really lucky. I have several owners that just want the dog buzzed...head, ears, tail, everything. Then I have 3 that like a more "poodle" look.

They all seem to have a patience about them for being touched and primped and preened. I wonder if it is genetic. LOL.

Standards are very intelligent and I think that's why they are so great for grooming. They learn quickly and are generally mild mannered dogs.
