Dematting Sprays

Post by Admin on May 3rd 2008, 10:56 am

What do you use for dematting. We normally use the stuff but have recently tried Mane & Tail to help with brushouts. It seems to work really well and doesn't leave a residue on the coat. Maybe those horse people are on to something LOL

Stephanie, got the girls hooked on eqyss, and kelco, but the natures specialties quicker slicker works well too and smells nice too.

I use the stuff, it's what we used in school and I haven't tried anything else yet. I do find that when I use it the dogs come back in sometimes(depending on the breed) their coat is very stringy and has a weird feel to it. I just bought a new bottle and I really wish I would have went with something else.

I heard the quicker slicker was good though. I'm not sure if it has silicone in it but I think I heard one time that thats what causes the build ups. Where does everyone buy their Natures Specialties?? I dont think Rens or Pet Supply house have it.

I use the Bark 2 Basics D-Mat. I use it straight on the coat while bathing to get out really matted areas. But mostly I dilute it into a spray bottle and spray it on the coat after a good towel drying. I don't find it makes the coats greasy, but I am careful not to put too much on the ears.

Shona, Re: Mane and Tail. Do you leave it in or rinse it out? I have just bought a bottle but haven't had the chance to use it yet.

Spray it on after the bath, work it in with your fingers and let it dry, don't rinse it off and don't bother brushing until it is dry. I use it mainly (no pun intended) on ears and tails and honestly haven't found anything I like better, you don't need much either and it doesn't leave any stickiness or residue. Try it you'll like it! LOL

I'm wondering if we are talking about different things. I bought a Mane and Tail conditioner. Is there a de-matting spray I missed or do you dilute the leave-in conditioner and use it as a spray?

No it's actually a de-tangler. One of our junior groomers actually uses it on her long hair LOL. I will see if I can find a link for it. We buy it at Sally's Beauty Supply.

I would never have thought to go to Sallys Beauty Supply. I'll check it out. Thanks for the link, now I know what I am looknig for.

Has anyone tried the Best Shot mist. How does it compare to other products. (I have a bottle already and don't want to buy more things if it is comparible to everything else. I have so many 1/2 used bottles of product laying around)

Show Season Detangle works amazingly well!!!! I bought a small bottle to try and it's gone in a month.. I'm getting the gallon next time. The smell of it is kinda floral-ish, which I don't really care for.. but I'm using it anyway!
