Refused to groom a dog today

Post by golden13 on February 17th 2009, 7:28 pm

I had a little dog today, he had come in with a coat on, when I removed the coat the skin was swollen, bleeding and ozing. the smell was something else. I called the owner he said yes to a vet visit.(work at a vet). After seeing the vet it would be about 200-300 dollars, the owner said the dog is not worth that, also found out he never takes the coat off, he said the dog scatches. I think this is a severe case of neglect. I called the humane society, had to leave a message. Now the owner is saying he is going to take him to another vet. Now I do not know what to do, do I trust the owner, or do I put it in the humane society hands. I just do not want the dog to suffer.

What a shame. Since you left a message with the Humane Society, hopefully they will get back to you and they can tell you what should be done. Had you seen this dog before or was he new?

Do you happen to have the address of this client? I had something like this happen, we called the humane society, left a message, then they got back to us after the dog left with the owner. I just gave the address to the officer and they looked into it. They went to there house and checked on the dog, everything worked out in the end, but perhaps they can do the same, check on the dog to make sure the dog is ok.

Wow, that sounds terrible, and disgusting. You did the right thing, I would leave it in the other vets' hands at this point or see what your vet where you work would advise.
