Rabies in Toronto
A puppy that was bought at a local Flea Market has been diagnosed with Rabies. This pup may have exposed hundreds of people that may have been in contact with it at the flea market. They are also trying to locate other pups that were for sale from this vendor. Scarey stuff!!

I read it in the news. Crazy. I lived in that area growing up and always went to that flea market.

One of my clients was at that Flea Market, and played with some of the puppies. She phoned me today about it because she has to go get a Rabies shot, and wanted to know if it would hurt. I wonder how many groomers have been vaccinated? (I haven't been)

Re: Rabies in Toronto
Oh no, your poor client. Most groomers don't get vaccinated because it is very expensive approx $200 a shot and you have to get 3 of them. They are not covered so you have to pay for them yourself. Even when I worked for a vet the shots were optional and hardly anyone I know had them done.

Re: Rabies in Toronto
isn't getting a tetnis shot supposed to cover you if you ever get bitten by a rabies infected dog? I just got one last month when I went into my doctor for other reasons.. didn't cost a thing and took all of two seconds!
There were some infected foxes in my area and a few dogs had been attacked and then had to be put down :/ very sad.

Re: Rabies in Toronto
that's weird that my doctor wouldn't have informed me of that... that's why I told her I wanted the shot. Would have been nice to know!

I just found out that one of my grooming clients(siberian husky) was one of the dogs attaked by a fox and had to be put down because of not being up to date on their shots.

That's so sad about the husky. I saw a fox just last week in our backyard, first time I've seen one here in over two years. Our dog got his yearly vaccinations this week, but he also isn't allowed to roam free on our property.

That is very scarey! Imagine if you had groomed that dog recently! We apparently have a fox living up the street in a vacant lot. Sure hope he doesn't think my bichon is a fluffy little bunny 0_0.
We have a lovely humungus skunk living under my neighbors back shed, my dogs aren't allowed to go in the backyard after dark.
