pricing for house calls?

Post by thh20 on August 29th 2009, 1:31 am

I do a house call for a lady who needs help getting her cat's nails trimmed once a month. She pays me 50$/visit, because she's about half an hour away by car & my husband comes with me & holds the cat.

I had another lady call me yesterday and ask if I'd do a house call for the same thing (the clients don't know each other). She lives a block away, and says her cat is polydactyl. How much would be fair to charge? My husband will probably be coming for this one, too... Normally, when clients bring me pets for a nail trim, I charge 10$...

I do a house call to cuts a dog's nails at his house because he is such a handful. The owners vet recommended sedating the dog each time and supplied the owner with some pills. I didn't want anything to do with the sedating, that is between the owner and the vet, so we agreed he will give the dog the pill and once he is sleepy, give me a call and I will come down and do the nails. To be honest, the dog may be sleepy before I arrive but once I start the nails he starts fighting so I'm not sure how much a help the sedation is. Anyways, this person is about a 4-5 minute walk from me so I just charge the normal nail cutting price that I charge in my shop. This guy is pretty generous and usually tips at least $5, sometimes $10. It never really ocured to me to charge more since he is so close and I am the only one going. In your case, I don't think it is unreasonable for the customer to expect to pay at least $20 for the convenience of not having to catch her cat and transport him/her (assuming the nail trim is straight forward and only takes a few minutes. If you are doing some major ' cat wrangling' and fighting then that is a different story).
