Advetising new shop
Hi everyone. I just moved to Ontario from B.C. 2 months ago. I had a grooming shop, doggie daycare and a up-bath there.
I have opened up a shop in my new house but I'm having a hard time getting my name out there.
I'm so use to having 15-20 dogs a day just for grooming ( 3 groomers and bather dryers and daycare staff) that I'm finding it painfully slow getting started.
What types of advertising did you do when you first started?
Any help would be great.
Starting all over in a new province where I don't know anyone is difficult.

Re: Advetising new shop
Put up flyers in local vets, pet supply stores, grocery bulletin boards etc. Where are you located in Ontario? is there a local paper that you can place an ad? This is a slower time right now but it will pick up again.Good luck I'm sure you will get busier as word spreads.

You could seek out boarding facilities and put your cards there. What about real estate agents, perhaps you could team up with one, groom dogs for clients trying to sell there home and then put a welcome gift in the home of new potential clients.

Re: Advetising new shop
thank you for great suggestions.
The last shop I had I purchased from a groomer who was moving and it grew so much I had to move to a bigger location. I know this is a slow time but I had hoped it would be a bit busier.
I have put business cards and flyers in vets and pet food stores and around the town. I advertised in a local paper but didn't recieve any calls from that at all.
I am offering a 10% discount to any customers on their grooms who refer new customers to me.
I love the idea of the real estate agents. What a great idea.
I will also contact boarding shops.
In the town I came from the other groomers were either great and friendly or horrible people who didn't want to be friends. The nice ones we refered clients to if we couldn't fit them in when they wanted. I want to introduce myself to other groomers in town but I don't want them to feel I'm trying to take business away from them.
Do you think I should introduce myself to the groomers in town? I think I will. I hope they are nice.

Re: Advetising new shop
When we first opened we advertised in a local paper and didn't get any results..........until about 4-5 wks later. A lot of people saw the ad and decided to give us a call but they waited until their dog needed their next groom.
As for introducing yourself to local groomers, go for it. I have several local groomers that I talk to and we refer back and forth as nec., there are a few that want nothing to do with us to and that's ok. If you really want to make a good first impression bring donuts LOL
