I had a call from a customer today who had her dog (a Lhasa) groomed on September 16 and she complained that because of the grooming both eyes have infections and the dog was bruised during the grooming (I do shave the corners of the eyes because it's safer than scissoring and they tend to get crusty). She went on to say that she's contacted the BBB and is going to put me out of business. I've had my own business since 2006 and this is the first time I've received this kind of call. I was ...

I had a little dog today, he had come in with a coat on, when I removed the coat the skin was swollen, bleeding and ozing. the smell was something else. I called the owner he said yes to a vet visit.(work at a vet). After seeing the vet it would be about 200-300 dollars, the owner said the dog is not worth that, also found out he never takes the coat off, he said the dog scatches. I think this is a severe case of neglect. I called the humane society, had to leave a message. Now the owner is saying ...

How do you handle certain customers who are consistently late or don't show up for their appointments? I am pretty upset today. Last Friday I had a no-show, and I called the customer two days before the appointment to remind her too! Then today, I only had one dog booked for 9:00 a.m. This customer is always late, arriving just under the wire (I allow 15 minutes after the appointment for customers to show, if they don't they get re-scheduled). At 9:20 I called and told her I would have to ...

I may be closing my business sometime in the next few months. We have decided to move from our rural area to the city. I won't be able to continue grooming from home as we are moving into a condo. Of course, this is all hinging on us being able to sell our house.

I wouldn't open a shop in town, I can't do enough dogs per day to carry it. I have inquired about working for a pet shop. The owner would pay me half what she charges for a groom and all I would need to supply are my scissors/clippers, ...

I have someone asking me to trim her cat. The problem is this: The cat is 13 years old, has NEVER been groomed or had it's nails cut and the poor baby is apparently so badly matted (I haven't seen him yet) that he has trouble walking. She told me that it looks like one big dreadlock. Sounds like neglect to me and I was so upset with her and her spouse for letting that cat get in such a sad condition. I told her that having a pet is both a priveledge and a responsability, and that people who are ...

Today, while assisting a local vet, we had to euthenize a beautiful golden lab. NOT because he was sick or mean, but simply because nobody wanted him. I cried so hard and stayed with him the whole time just so that he was not alone when he "went". After I got home I went on the website for pets and found a lady looking to get rid of a dog (the exact description of the one we did this morning) and she said she was giving him a week. Well I spent the rest of the day searching for a home ...

Well, it finally happened to me. I had my first serious bite from a dog. The strange thing is, this was the third time I had groomed this particular dog - a Scottie! I had heard they can be unpredictable and I have never groomed one before. This dog came from the SPCA shelter, I even groomed him for free the first time. I was trying to get a matt out of his beard. I wasn't tugging, just trying to find them to cut them out or use the slicker on it. There was no warning, no growling, body ...

My dog just got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. He has started taking medication, so his symptoms should start to get better in a few weeks. He started losing hair in his loin area a few weeks ago and the skin turned black, but the Vet says the hair should grow back. He had some aggression problems back in January and we did blood work at that time. Some of the tests came back slightly abnormal, but nothing definitive. Last week when he went in for his vaccinations, I have the Vet take another ...

Hi! I had today one cocker spaniel almost 2 years old that went to groomer only twice prior coming to my place. He behaved terrible in the tub,on the table, did not allow me to touch his paws or dry him. After he bite few times I put a muzzle on him. That did not help much. I ended up with so many scraches all over my arms and neck. I could hardly finish shaving him. I planed to give him some style, but that was all that I could do even that I questioned for a moment if I could complete. I do ...

I found an ad on Kijiji.ca for used grooming equipment, a girl had taken a course at a local college and then decided grooming wasn't for her. So after a "month"of use they were selling all her stuff for $500. Included was a table, one of those arms like the LIPS system has, some shedding rakes, grooming loops, apron, super 2 speed andis, double duck shears, another pair i had never heard of, a slicker, and a few disposable blades. So i said fine i would take it all, i stressed that ...
