My poor dog needs a bath. Normally I bathe him in our shower stall with a hand held shower head. He is a big (90lb) long haired Aussie. We have been dealing with a terminal cancer that has left his front left limb extremely weak. He is no longer able to go up the stairs to the shower or stand for any length of time. Because he has to lie when eating he has all manner of food and yuck down his beautiful white chest. I have tried to keep it wiped off but he is now stained and a bit smelly. I know ...

Plus, I BRUSH BURNED THIS DOG on the really thick part of the shoulder. I have never brush burned a dog.. I just really wanted to get all that excess coat out. Was only using a pin brush and a dematting rake. Said to keep an eye on it and I'll pay vet bills if need be.. owners seem to love me and weren't too fazed. Then a newfie that had ...

Long story short my dog, an Aussie (Large) has extensive nerve damage to his front left leg. As a result he has no feeling in his paw and drags it (bent under) when we walk. He has worn two of his nails down past the quick causing them to bleed. Thankfully it is not painful but I am concerned about infection etc. I have tried various boots, socks and the like, but they will not stay on. At the moment ...

I use to show dogs so all the basics (nails, ears..etc) are already known. I also ran my own small rescue and did all my own grooming. Alot of these guys were difficult but we made it through.

Ilive in Sutton but am moving to Newmarket this fall. I would be willing to entertain any salons within the GTA.

I would just like to know if you give any flat rate to regular customers. Example if somebody comes every month - 6 weeks - every 2 months.

Really interested in what everyone uses for shampoos & conditioners and such... what you like about them, what you've tried in the past and liked(don't forget to mention if you use a bathing system or not, which I do not), etc.

Right now I use Dr Hypo by Kelco for everyday - it smells great and cleans pretty well, Critter Clean from Whal which I'm scared to use because I had a dog react to it, BioGroom Oatmeal which I like but am getting sick of the smell.. but it works very well. ...

OK, I'm new to the grooming world, an have completed all the Theroy work for grooming school and have started doing my practice work now. I had to shave down two cocker spaniels the other day and I'm wipped out! I think I need to get my clipper blade sharpend as it was really having a hard time finishing the job. It took me 6 hours to get these girls looking normal(?). I found that I was scared to do their legs with the clipper, as I kept worring that I was going to nick them since it's ...

hello once again! So I shaved down my very first newfie today she was 6 years old and never groomed professionaly, only by her mom. Mom wanted a bath and tidy but there was no way that was happening. Anyway I wanted to know what everyones routine is for shaving a big double coat. It took me 3.5 hours and I had an awful time... like really awful. I broke down a little in between.. partly because of pms but mostly because it was the 3rd dog of the day that was very badly matted and it started ...

I groomed a Standard Poodle yesterday and was so excited because I only have one other SP customer and they only come in once a year. The owners of this dog have four of them and usually do their own grooming. They decided to try one of the dogs with me so see how I groom. Today the wife called and told me what a great job I did and booked their second dog next week!! The neat thing is, they are also breeders and will pass my name on to the future adoptive parents. There are also a number ...

I have had a few customers ask me if I am a "licensed dog groomer". As far as I know, we don't have licensing here in Canada? Is that correct? I tell them that I have a certificate from the grooming school I attended, but there isn't a licensing body that oversees groomers.

My husband is manager of the Apprenticeship Deptartment here in NS. He says he doesn't know of any licensing for dog groomers, and it isn't an apprenticable trade (yet??).
