So i'm very curious to see how everyone else is fairing these days. Have you noticed any trends with your clients?

Since about march we have been steady, instead of being slammed and booked 2 weeks in advance we are booking the week of, and are able to accomodate everyone that phones. Don't get me wrong we're still busy, and able to get enough dogs to keep my groomers happy. There are pros and cons to this, a con; the groomers may not know exactly what to expect in the next few days, the ...

Hi everyone. I just moved to Ontario from B.C. 2 months ago. I had a grooming shop, doggie daycare and a up-bath there.

I have opened up a shop in my new house but I'm having a hard time getting my name out there.

I'm so use to having 15-20 dogs a day just for grooming ( 3 groomers and bather dryers and daycare staff) that I'm finding it painfully slow getting started.

What types of advertising did you do when you first started?

Any help would be great.

I was just wondering if anyone was interested to go to Hershey for Groom Expo. I would love to find someone to share the driving and possibly a hotel room to lessen the costs. It is on the weekend of September 11-13. I've always wanted to go but every year something prevents me from going. This year I have been planning to go with a friend, and have even booked the hotel, but she has just backed out.
Hello, any of you shop owners pay your groomers commission? If so do you take off taxes? Is it just straight commission and they are responsible for their own taxes? Do they get statutory holiday pay? What about vacation pay? If they get paid for statutory holiday pay, how do you base their pay? Everyday income would be different since on commission. I have never had a groomer before, just an assistant and she is leaving in May for maternity leave.

I have no help and I cannot find an assistant. ...

I am frustrated by the amount of home groomers popping up in my neighborhood. In Whitby, grooming out of your house is not allowed by the town, unless you are properly zoned. My reason being, I do not want my chiwuawua to have a coronary when if he were to see these new animals coming too and fro! I will have a private entry and I am wondering which would be better. Stairs or ramp? With winter coming, I can't help thinking of slippery wet boots and paws! The stairs are right as you open the door and to have the "slip-safe strips" inside might look funny! ...

Just wondering how everyone is doing right now? I found that january was unusually busy for us, then the first week of february it died down. The lowest amount of dogs we had in was 10 in one day, which is slow for us. This week the phone is ringing much more, but we're still not doing our usual numbers.
Anyone else finding this strange? I'm assuming its all this snow we've having!!!

I was wondering what kind of policies you all have for "no shows" or late pickups?

We have a handful of clients that are chronic "no shows" or call and cancel the morning of there appointment. Quite often we can fill that appointment spot, but when you have a client that has 3 dogs, it gets irritating. We don't have a policy in place for these people, and i would really like to put one in place, but i'm wondering if it is really worth it. I don't want to tick people off, ...

Just wondered how you take care of your client list? Do you go through it regularly to see who is a regular client and who only came once? Do you do mail-outs to those who only came once to entice them back? I am going to purchase a computer program and will need to get more information from my clients, so I thought I would use this opportunity to phone everyone and chat. Is this a good idea? I don't want to bother people, but I would also be curious to see if they tell me why they didn't ...

I'm wondering what you all are using to keep track of you daily/weekly appointments. One of my groomers husbands, made a book for me, but it is so big and bulky, but it has a space for each groomer. Each girl can put her times where she wants dogs in at. But now that i am expanding, and adding more groomers, so i need to make an addition to the book. We do a lot of dogs in a day, around 25 on average, so i'm just wondering what kind of appointment books you all use? Has anyone tried the Stazko ...
