I forgot about this forum, so it's been a while since I put up a post.

I have been on the board for ODGA for a while now. We are trying to make changes and think of new ideas to make the association better for groomers in Ontario.

One thought that has been bounced around is having multiple chapters. It seams at the time, there are more then ever a lot of options for groomers, but all in around the same area. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have chapters of ODGA, so encourage people from ...

So i'm very curious to see how everyone else is fairing these days. Have you noticed any trends with your clients?

Since about march we have been steady, instead of being slammed and booked 2 weeks in advance we are booking the week of, and are able to accomodate everyone that phones. Don't get me wrong we're still busy, and able to get enough dogs to keep my groomers happy. There are pros and cons to this, a con; the groomers may not know exactly what to expect in the next few days, the ...

She went on to say that she's contacted the BBB and is going to put me out of business. I've had my own business since 2006 and this is the first time I've received this kind of call. I have opened up a shop in my new house but I'm having a hard time getting my name out there.

I'm so use to having 15-20 dogs a day just for grooming ( 3 groomers and bather dryers and daycare staff) that I'm finding it painfully slow getting started.

What types of advertising did you do when you first started?

Any help would be great.

My poor dog needs a bath. Normally I bathe him in our shower stall with a hand held shower head. He is a big (90lb) long haired Aussie. We have been dealing with a terminal cancer that has left his front left limb extremely weak. He is no longer able to go up the stairs to the shower or stand for any length of time. Because he has to lie when eating he has all manner of food and yuck down his beautiful white chest. I have tried to keep it wiped off but he is now stained and a bit smelly. I know ...

It's right on top of my shoulder, close to my neck. Have no idea how I did it, I figure it's from holding dogs up and such as it's on my left side and I'm right handed.

I've got Sunday and Monday to recover and I really hope it's fine by Tuesday. I really gotta start taking better care of my body, at this rate I won't be able to groom by the time ...

We brought home our first born (a boy) 2 weeks ago. The cats have adjusted fine, but I'm a bit worried about the dog. She's 11 1/2 years old, and I can't tell if she's jealous or protective of the baby. Whenever he cries, she'll go lie in front of his crib, but will move when we go to tend to him. She seems reluctant to leave me, regardless of if I have the baby with me or not. She'll stay around the stroller when he's in it but doesn't like walking beside it.

She wanders around, panting, ...

My husband owns and runs a comic book store. Free Comic Book Day is this coming Saturday. It's a promotional day for comic book stores in which they give out free comic books (specially designated & shipped for just this event) to help drum up business for the industry. Seeing as we're a dual business house, we thought it would be a great time to do some cross-promotion for my new salon. I live outside of Sutton Ontario but am going to be moving to Newmarket this fall. I use to show Papillons in obedience and have always done all my own grooming on my own dogs. I have DVDs to help me learn but not hands on help. Day school is not an option, tried to find a mentor..no luck..I noticed PS in Newmarket wanted a bather..maybe that would be a good start to gain some confidence?
Hi everybody...

I was just wondering if anyone might have a little time to tell me what kind of school they attended (which one specifically if in the Toronto/GTA area. Or has anyone taken any online and obtained employment as a result?

Also what is considered ridiculous for tuition?

Anything anyone can tell me would be SO much appreciated. I'm all flustered and confused after being online for three days looking all over.

Thanks,

I'm from Toronto too! Was born & raised in Montreal, but moved to Ontario in '04... I LOVE it here!

I'm in the process of starting my own business. I should be ready to open in a few short weeks! I live with my husband of 2 years, my dog, 2 cats, and a tankful of fish (anyone want a tankful of fish? )

I already know someone on this board, but I'm not going to say who... I'll let the mystery unfold by itself!

She lives right at the beach and is in the water every day, needless to say she was a matted mess. Her owner finally broke down and asked if I could clip her, and after alot of serious thinking, I agreed. It really broke my heart to do it, but I think she turned out pretty cute! Her owner was thrilled, to the point of almost breaking into tears! What do you think?

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a groomer in the Stoney Creek mountain/Binbrook area near Hamilton, Ontario.

My sister just got a "Morkie" (I think that is what it is called), a cross between a Maltese and a Yorkshire Terrier.

I wish she had called me first before she got the puppy, I might have steered her in a different direction. I told her she better find a groomer soon, as this breed could potentially have a very difficult coat to work with.

Thanks.

She said he'll fall asleep on the grooming table, holy crow... how great is that! I'M SO EXCITED!!

He has worn two of his nails down past the quick causing them to bleed. Thankfully it is not painful but I am concerned about infection etc. I have tried various boots, socks and the like, but they will not stay on. At the moment ...

Does anyone know where I can get one of those stuffed dogs used for grooming demos? Is it better to get one specifically made for clipping/ scissoring the fur, or will a stuffed dog from a toy store (e.g.) work too?

I'm in Toronto, by the way.

Thanks!
