Certification

Post by Stephanie on January 17th 2009, 6:02 pm

I have a question for those of you who are certified in any breeds or who have achieved your CMG. Where did you do your workshops and testing? Ontario doesn't seem to be feasible, so I was wondering if you travelled.

I did my non-sporting and short legged terrier here in Ontario. If we can get enough people (10) we should be able to organize one. Anyone interested?

Ok I have talked to another person who is interested so I will contact the powers that be and see what I can do. Does the end of March, beginning of April sound feasable?

If possible, I would really, really like to have the opportunity to do the workshop six weeks before the test. I also would not be comfortable doing the workshop in a public forum like the All About Pets Show the way it was last year.

I e-mailed Val Weston and she mentioned that there is one being held in Ottawa in April. I know this is too far for most of us so I am trying to see if I can get one held here. I will keep you all updated!

Ok I have heard back and all we have to do is pick a date and let them know how many are interested. Val will not be available for a little while as she has some other things going on so we will have to put it off for a bit. Can everyone who is interested please PM me and let me know when they would like to do this. Give me a date and how many people. I need to have firm commitments before I can get it going as it is not fair to the certifiers to come out for 1 or 2 people.

What are the costs associated with certifying? How does it work, i can't remember.
Then there is the ongoing problem of finding test dogs.

Re: Certification

We have a few bichon and westie people that we are hoping will let us use their dogs in exchange for a couple of months free grooming. That will get us started, and then we'll have to try to find a sporting and long-legged terrier. I'm excited to do this! As I said before, as long as I get a chance to do that seminar before the test I am in! The very worst that can happen is that I don't pass, but I get a good solid critique of my work and learn some things. Do you think we should shoot for the fall?

Information for certification and costs can be found at http://ipgcmg.org/certification.html. I think I figured that the full cost of testing for a CMG was about $550 US, if you passed each time, didn't have to travel and not counting seminars.
